Lip Lift in Mexico
Lip Lift
A lip lift — or subnasal lip lift — is a precise surgical procedure that removes a thin strip of skin from just under the nose to shorten the upper lip, lift the cupid's bow and increase visible vermilion show. Performed under local anesthesia with light sedation, it lasts 45 to 60 minutes.
Unlike fillers, the result is permanent and addresses the underlying anatomy — not just the volume.
Who is a good candidate?
Adults whose philtral length (distance from base of nose to top of upper lip) exceeds 1.5 cm, who do not show their upper teeth at rest, or who feel their upper lip is disproportionately long. Healthy non-smokers with realistic expectations. Patients with previous nose surgery may need to wait 6–12 months.
Expected results
The upper lip is shorter and more lifted. The vermilion is more visible. The cupid's bow has more definition. The result is most natural at 3 months once the scar has matured. The change is permanent.
Bullhorn vs Other Techniques
Several lip-lift techniques have been described — only the bullhorn produces a reliably hidden scar.
1. Bullhorn (subnasal) — preferred
The incision follows the natural curve at the base of the nose, shaped like a bull's horns. The scar hides perfectly in the natural shadow under the nostrils.
2. Italian (gull-wing)
Two separate incisions placed at the base of each nostril. Less commonly used today.
3. Direct vermilion advancement
Incision along the upper border of the lip itself. Permanent visible scar — suitable only for very specific indications (vermilion enhancement rather than lift).
The Hidden Scar
The bullhorn incision sits exactly where the nose meets the upper lip — an anatomical shadow that already exists. Once healed (6–12 months), the scar is essentially invisible from conversational distance. Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico uses layered closure and no-tension technique to optimise quality.
