Buttock Augmentation in Mexico
Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
The Brazilian Butt Lift — or gluteal lipofilling — reshapes the buttocks by harvesting the patient's own fat (typically from the abdomen, flanks and lower back) and re-injecting it into the gluteal area. The same operation simultaneously contours the trunk and augments the buttocks — a unique advantage of the procedure.
BBL has a documented safety history that demands strict adherence to evidence-based protocols. Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico follows the international gold standard: subcutaneous-only injection with intra-operative ultrasound guidance when indicated, exclusively in accredited private hospitals.
Who is a good candidate?
Adults in good general health, with sufficient donor fat (abdomen, flanks, back), non-smokers, with realistic expectations. Very lean patients may not have enough fat for meaningful augmentation — for them, gluteal implants are an alternative. Patients seeking massive volume changes are counselled toward conservative, anatomically appropriate goals.
Expected results
The buttocks are projected, lifted and harmoniously balanced with the waist and thighs. Trunk contouring (abdomen, flanks, back) further enhances the curves. 50–70% of the injected fat survives; the rest is reabsorbed. Final result is visible at 4 to 6 months. Permanent with stable weight.
The Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico Safety Protocol
BBL safety has dramatically improved over the past decade thanks to evidence-based protocols. Argaman Plastic Surgeries Mexico applies every safety measure that has demonstrated benefit:
- Subcutaneous-only injection — the cannula tip stays above the muscle plane, never inside it
- Intra-operative ultrasound guidance when indicated, to verify cannula position
- Static cannula technique — no fat injection while the cannula is in motion through tissue planes
- Volume adapted to the patient's morphology — for patient safety, our surgeons only inject the quantity of fat that the buttock can safely receive given the patient's anatomy. We do not chase oversized results that would compromise blood supply or graft survival.
- Procedures performed exclusively in accredited private hospitals
- Surgeon-to-anesthesiologist communication protocol for vital-sign monitoring
This protocol has dramatically reduced the historical complication risk associated with BBL.
Fat vs Implants
Two options for buttock augmentation:
1. Fat transfer (BBL) — preferred
Patient's own tissue, no foreign body, simultaneously contours the trunk. Requires sufficient donor fat. Recovery 14 days.
2. Gluteal implants (silicone)
Solid silicone implants placed in an intra-muscular pocket. More rigid feel, longer recovery and a significantly higher complication profile (capsular contracture, displacement, infection, extrusion).
Our surgeons do not perform this technique. The long-term risk/benefit ratio of gluteal implants does not meet our safety standards. For very lean patients with insufficient donor fat, we recommend gaining a few kilos before surgery or considering an alternative body-contouring plan.
